Blog #7

This round of poetry readings was a little more difficult than the previous ones. I thought that "We Real Cool" was interesting because it briefly chronicled the lives of a group of kids that dropped out of school. It then simply describes the downfall of this group of people and how it leads to a premature death. Perhaps it is a message to not think your cool by dropping out of school. The other poem I thought was interesting was "Metaphors". When i first read it I just thought that it was some strange poem trying to make a metaphor with every line. Although upon further inspection I discovered that it was about a pregnant woman. The author continuously describes herself as being large. She compares herself to being an elephant, melon, and a house. Perhaps she is self conscious about her appearance. What made the pregnant aspect apparent was when she said, "a cow in a calf" and "boarded the train theres no getting off". Meaning once you are pregnant theres no going back...for the most part.
