Blog #5 Connor McInnis

After reading "Dulce et Decorum Est" it appeared to be about a soldier writing about his platoon in war. It is very descriptive when it talks about the mens conditions as they march through the mud and filth. They are very tired and as they walk their empty rifle shells drop on the ground. After looking at the years the author was alive it appears that he is writing about the American Civil War, but does not give any hints, at least that I can find, as to where he is, how old he is, or what side he is fighting for, that is either the North or South. In another poem "Next to the course of god america I" is about a patriotic man who is very nationalistic when it comes to the U.S. He talks about how the men who fought for our freedom did not hesitate to risk their lives in battle, rather they went forward and fought bravely. He is also proud that he can raise his sons in America as a free state.
