For this weeks read, we read Metamorphosis. I am not going to lie, I had a very hard time reading and understanding this story. I did however understand it a little bit more after we had discussed it in class on Tuesday. The symbolism became much more clear, after the discussion questions. I was extremely confused when Gregor just woke up one morning and he was transformed into a giant beetle. I later realized this was a metaphor for the people who just kind of wander through life. The fact that he never once questions how or why this happened, shows that Gregor lacks concern for his quality of life. Another theme from this story, is how other people see us. Once Gregor turns into this bug, it seems like his family no longer cares about there son/brother. Instead they see that there is no source of income for the household. The sister in the beginning shows some concern for her brother, by beginning him food. By the end she purely sees him as a burden to her. This is a rather sad story, but it is also very enlightening. Showing that we need to care about life outside of our jobs, and we need to care for others in good and bad times.
