For my favorite reading of the week was Tim Obrien's the things they carried. I really enjoy reading about how the soldiers dealt with the pains of being in war. Coming from a fairly military family, and never talking to someone who has been in a war.It really makes you think, how would you be able to cope with the stresses and dangers in a time of war. It was interesting seeing how Jimmy struggled with his senses of who he is as he is walking through the jungle. Jimmy doesn't know if he loves Martha, if its his faul Ted died, or why he is even there. One of the biggest symbolism in this story is the name "Jimmy Cross", the last name Cross symbolizes his cross to bare. Showing the pains of war, and the burdens of blood on his hands that he has to deal with for the rest of his life. Also, his initials are J.C. which are the same initials of Jesus Christ. This symbolizes how he is fighting for the freedom of his people, and the sacrifice of his own life to save everyone else. The only thing I didn't get, was the reason for Jimmy wanting to touch Martha's knee?
