Metamorphosis was a unique story about a man who changed into an insect over night. I thought it was a weird concept for the author to write about. But looking deeper into the story their is an underlying message as to why the man (Gregor) changed into a bug and how it effected his family and those close to him. When he turned into an insect, Gregor seemed to be complacent with it. But as time goes on and he starts to realize his family is rejecting him he starts to become upset with his situation. Gregor's family thinks that Gregor is now a burden that they have to take care of. Before this though, Gregor was the only source of income for the entire family, so it was weird how he didn't complain about his family being a burden to him when he was the one supporting them, but how they believe he is a burden to them. This is an act of selflessness which is one of the major themes in the story. As the story progresses the family goes under their own metamorphosis, as the father gets a job working at the bank and wears a new uniform around the house, Gregor describes him as looking healthy and can finally stand up straight. So his father went under a metamorphosis too. At the end of the story Gregor dies and the family is relieved, so they go on a trip where the parents realize that the sister (Grete) has turned into a beautiful woman and should seek a husband who would then be able to take care of the family. In all the family as a whole went under a metamorphosis after Gregor turned into an insect and even though the family was very selfish they were able to get over the loss of Gregor and go on with their lives.
