Metamorphosis Blog #3
In the story Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, there are many themes present. Including some such as alienation, greed, family duty, selfishness vs. selflessness, and metamorphosis. Probably the most important maine theme is alienation. Throughout the reading, it was clear that Gregor no matter what he did was getting further and further separated from his family and society. Even before he turned into a bug, his family didn't care too much about him, but only wanted the money he made from work because his family was in poverty and no one else had a job. His sister and father are considered selfish, while Gregor is selfless and loves his family no matter what through the entire story, which is why he works and tries his best to support them. He feels like he is obligated and it is his family duty which is another. By the end of the story, he was so ashamed of himself that he committed suicide because he knew it would make his family happier. Gregor was a great guy that was torn down by society and his transformation.
