Blog #1 "Hills like White Elephants"
In Hemingways short story, "Hills like White Elephants," he describes a situation between a young couple, waiting at a train station. At the station the young couple talk and what at first appears to be a pointless argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend, actually reveals a massive controversy. Using some of the hidden clues from the story, reveal that the dilemma between the couple is whether or not to get an abortion. Clues like rivers ( represents an abundance of life), the hills shaped like white elephants ( In indian cultures a white elephant is a blessing), and the railroad tracks ( In the story railroad tracks were used to represent two paths in life, once you head down one track you cant turn back) Today abortion is still a risky topic in politics on whether or not it should be illegal or legal due to the fact that it in some ways it goes against religious beliefs. At first glance reading the story I thought it was a dull story, but after dissecting the story and piecing together the missing parts to the puzzle I thought the story greatly reflected society today.
