In Ted Kooser's poem, "Student," he uses great parallelism associating the student with a turtle, although the author doesn't come out directly say he is using a turtle in the poem. The parallel being made between the two is the student carries responsibility a the foundations of a journey that he must for fill in order to have a promising future. Just like a turtle carrying out its responsibility to lay their eggs on the beach in order to ensure a future for its species. For example in the first stanza the student is described carrying a green, turtle shell like back pack, containing his books for classes; like a turtle holds its eggs in its shell. The two of them hold the future in their hands.

In Nancy Willard's poem, "Questions My Son Asked Me, Answers I Never Gave Him," requires the reader to think out side the box when analyzing the poem. At first glance poem looks as if it was a bunch of jumbled random questions and responses, but there are deeper meanings behind the confusing  questions and responses. For example in stanza 7,  " Can I eat stars? Yes, with the mouth of time that enjoys everything." Time consumes everything. Stars and like all other things in the universe have a lifespan, when time has passed by and consumed the lifespan of a star its consumed or dies. Nothing out lasts time.
