The Lottery

After reading The Lottery, all I could think about is if there is a town in this world that puts on such a tradition like the one in the short story. When I first saw the title, I imagined the story being about some one winning the lottery and how it turned their life upside down. I almost imagined something similar to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where he gets the Golden Ticket and then he ends up running the factory. But obviously the short story was nothing like that. After realizing that each family was drawing a slip to determine whether or not they are going to be stoned to death, I just thought to myself how? How could anyone get stoned by people in their own town? How could people even have the mind to do such a thing? What if it was a little toddler that was chosen rather than an adult? All of this went through my mind and I just could not picture this being a real life scenario. If I was chosen to do this, I would run and fight for my life resulting in me moving to another town that does not do The Lottery. But this story reminds me of the movie The Hunger Games where they chose someones name to represent their town and fight for their life. This is similar where each person has a chance of being picked and each person has a chance of becoming dead.
