Taylor Sjoberg Blog #4
The story that I was given to read was "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson was a gruesome and disturbing story. The build up the whole time makes you want to continue reading and having the title the Lottery intrigued me to keep reading because i assumed the winner would have won a cash prize or something positive. Instead the winner or loser for that matter that was chosen was stone to death by the towns people. It made me think why or how would people do this? Do they do it out of fear? Maybe the fact that everyone else is doing it or maybe due to the fact that they are happy that they are still alive. I don't know but it was disgusting what they did. They never really went into detail why but they said it was some type of tradition yet all the surrounding towns or villages don't do it anymore? Why does this town continue to? What is the actual rendition. This story was written very well though my attention was focussed the whole time. It wasn't to long where i got bored but long enough to keep me reading all the way to the end and then re-read because i was shocked at what happened. Overall i enjoyed this story for it was interesting to read and this will probably be the story i write about.
