In Randall Jarrell's poem, " The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner," the starts off peaceful and clam to fighting and tragedy through exposing the risks and hazards of war. At the beginning of the poem, narrator began the poem into a peaceful mood describing himself as a baby curled in the mothers womb high in the world of dreams. Then he begins to describe how he woke up from cannon fire, filling the sky with black plumes, bringing the narrator back to reality. After its all over, the narrator ends the story of how the men wash out the blood of the dead turret gunner not mentioning if there was a ceremony for his death or even a sign meant anything. I think ending the poem describing the ball turret being cleaned hints to the audience that men who die in the ball turret was quite common.
In Jean Toomer's poem, " Face,"I get the feeling a old woman who has aged not just from time but from a tragedy she never over came. The poem gives the feeling of visualizing a widow, for example how she describes her having purple bags under her eyes with some tears as a sign of sadness. Even reflected in the sun witch can be a happy type setting her eyes were not described to shine in a positive meaning. Other negative details describe her was that she had wrinkles in her skin that were carved with pain.
