Weekly Blog

This week in class we read a very interesting story called "Metamorphosis". This short story is about a person who supports his entire family, by himself, and gets almost no recognition for it. And then one day he wakes up to find that he has turned into a giant insect. This frightens his family terribly, and especially his mother and sister. Because of this transformation he loses his job, leaving his father to finally get off the couch and start working. Eventually, the family comes to blame him for making the father have to work, because they had so heavily relied on and expected his income. So when he lost it he became just like a cockroach in the house, barely noticeable.
Personally I thought this was very strange at first. But I then came to realize at least what I thought it was about after thinking about the story and mulling it over. Now, i do not think the story is bad at all, and I actually enjoy it. I plan to read it again, in its entirety, so that maybe I can catch a few things I missed the first time around, or get a new perspective on the story.
I hope we keep reading stories like this because I've thoroughly enjoyed these ones that I didn't like at first, but then came to see what they are about.
