The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World Post 2
I found "The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World" an extremely interesting short story. Although the story can be interpreted in many different ways, the way that I interpreted it was that it represented religion. When the massive body first washed upon the shore, there was no want for it. It was a burden and a hale to bring him from the beach to the small village. There also was barley any room for him in any of the houses within the village. Just as religions barley fit in some peoples lives at first. A lot of people find religion a burden, and they kind of just go through to motions of the "right" thing to do. The women kind of do the same thing with the cleaning of the drowned man. Once they get him all cleaned they start to realize how beautiful the drowned man was. Towards they end of the story the narrator says, "their houses would have wider doors, higher ceilings, and stronger floors..." To me this represented how religions have their doors open to all and everyone is welcome and wanted. When the Drowned Man left the island, his presence alone changed the island for the better, kind of how when Jesus Christ was crucified, he left a bigger impact on the world then when he was alive.
