Brendan Mclaughlin Blog#2
In the last reading we read and discussed in class " The Handsomest Drowned Man" which in the story a man washes up on the beach, before he washes up on the beach the children have trouble identifying him because he is so large which made me start to think if he could be real or just in their imagination. Other ideas that went into this were how they needed to use knifes to cut his finger nails and how they couldn't find a table strong enough to lie him down upon. It sort of made me think that it was more then just a man and more a idea. I started to think about how he changed the ways the woman viewed their husbands as being not good as the dead man. They started to give him a past that they had thought up and the more they dreamt about him the more they resented there husbands. This made me think it was the author showing a message about don't compare what you have to what other people have because there will always be somebody with more then you have or have something you want. I enjoyed reading this short story.
