Hills Like White Elephants

After reading a good amount of short stories in high school, I could easily say that "Hills Like White Elephants" was very enjoyable to read and enjoyable to review. I remember that my English Teachers would always just tell us to read a story and expect us to understand it right away. I have to admit, after reading "Hills Like White Elephants" I did not understand it very well. But after reading it over and asking questions about the story, it started to click in my head. I would have never realized how much symbolism Hemingway used in such a short story. The class discussion that we had in class about it not only helped my shipmates and I, but everyone was paying attention where they realized how much more was to the story. I wish that my classes in high school used techniques like this because I would have gotten a better grade. Hopefully we continue are discussions like this and it will truly help my classmates and I understand literature a lot better.
