During these first few classes I
have to admit that I am enjoying this class much more than I previously would
have thought. I expected to become bored with just reading random stories and
discussing them. But fortunately, we have been given a selection of stories in
which I am either familiar with the actual story, or the author, and I believe
they will all be very interesting reads. Even the first one “Hills Like White
Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway was extremely intriguing. At first glance and
read through it seems to be just a casual, somewhat tense conversation between
two people waiting for a train, that are apparently in a relationship. But after
reading through the story a few times you will come to realize that there are
much more serious hidden undertones and hidden symbolism in the story. The story
eventually leads to quite a read when you finally came to realize what the
story is about. And I can only hope that all the future stories will come to
capture my interest like this one did.
