Britta Tornberg- The Handsomest Drowned man in the world

Dear Class-
I like the beginning of this short story particularly much because it tells me a great deal of the people of the fishing village. I am told that children on the beach are playing with and burying the body as it washes ashore. The first question I ask is if bodies washing ashore is a common happening. The next question that arises is why are the children playing with this body? I feel like there is either a large cultural difference to a modern day American or definitely a difference in time period. I could not imagine playing with a dead man during my spare time!
I like how Esteban's appearance to the village caused such a magnificent change. It seemed that the presence of a beautiful and god-like man expanded everyone's way of thinking and was such a wonderful source of inspiration to all of the villagers. I feel like this dead man brought so much life as well as a new world to this small village of 20 poor houses.
