Blog #1- Ryan Green
So far this Analysis of Literature class has been very unique. Right off the bat we got down to the grind with some analysing of an interesting piece, "Hills Like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway. I questioned to myself why the first piece of literature we read in class was about a girl getting an abortion. Then I came to a conclusion that the future of this class is to be filled with interesting pieces of literature for us to tear apart.
Besides that, I learned how talented Hemingway was as a writer, and how he held such a crazy background for being such a good writer. He was married four times, drank his face off, and loved woman. Who would think such a man could be such an amzing writer. In "Hills Like White Elephants", Hemingway's meaning of the text is hidden behind symbols and clues for us to unfold.
As I wrote this first blog, I thought to myself that maybe this was the proper first piece of literature for us to analyze. Lets face it, probably none of us are writers like the famous Hemingway, but that doesnt mean we can't write like him. His interesting background shows that he wasnt some boring man hidden behind stacks of papers and books. His life was most likely more interesting and crazy than anyone else in the class. The fuel to his writing was his lifestyle and his creative mind. In order to be a good writer, just find something your interested in and get lost in the writing. Whos knows what your own writing fuel can create.
