The Lottery

The lottery is a very symbolic story, fully of life lessons. In this small town, every year they have a drawing of all the towns people over the age of 16. Everyone is forced to "play" in the lottery. Every person pulls out a slip of paper out of a box. If your paper has the black spot on it, you are the "winner". The "winner" every year has the great fortune of being stoned to death by the rest of the towns people. The major theme I took away from this story is, that addictions are deadly. The people of the town don't even remember why they still play the lottery, they just do it out of force of habit. The Lottery" presents a weakness in human individuals. This town, having performed such a terrible act for so many years, continues on with the lottery, with no objections or questions asked, and the main purpose being to carry on the tradition. It is so easy to become addicted to things, and not even realize it, because it just becomes part of our normal routine. These addictions can destroy our lives in all aspects.
