Jonathan Gardner Blog #2

The story we read this week so far was the first time for almost all of us that we have read this story.  After reading,  " The Handsomest Man in the World" through a couple of times I had began to see some hidden messages in the writing that the author seemed to be trying to convey to the readers.  For me I did not get the whole religious vibe as much as a life lesson on human actions. In the beginning of he story you notice truly how nieve the children are to as what has really happened to this man and the pure innocents they display. However this is not what I got out of the story.  For me this story displayed the caringness of  human beings.  When the man washed upon the shore the men of the village went throughout the area and searched for his family in hopes that they could reunite them one last time.  After finding that there was no known family in the area that could be notified they took him in as one of their own.  He was properly groomed for the funeral ceremony and was sent off the cliff just like any other villager would have been.  The moral for me is show respect even after death because there is still family out there that grieves that loose and cares for that loved one.
