Brendan McLaughlin Blog #!

I really enjoyed reading "Hills like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway. However I had a good deal of trouble thinking outside the box on my first read through. I found it much easier once we started discussing how it was about a abortion in class. Then the second read for me it was easier to build off the first block that was given to me, because until that point I never seem to know if I am going in the right direction. Then I was able to piece it all together and start thinking of it less literally and more about the other "deeper" meanings. I started to see how the couple was discussing the abortion and the train showed the two different possible ways, while the location of the bags showed their position on the abortion swell as which way they would take the train. There is only one question that I have that I am confused about and that is. What does the drinking symbolize?
